Words of Peace

As I was reviewing this verse from Psalm 85 just now, I realized that I’ve found quite a bit of comfort in it. What a powerful image! The Lord speaks words of peace over His people; sadly, I wonder how many of us have been too busy or too fretful to even notice?

Perhaps that’s why this passage contains some words of admonition, too – “but let them not turn back to folly.” Isn’t that just the way that we can be, though? Here God is on one side, speaking words of peace to us, but we are so busy and preoccupied with our own thoughts, desires and needs that we start turning away from the only One who is able to solve the very problems we face each day. What was the psalmist saying about folly…? 🤔

Moving forward, my goal is to be able to quiet my spirit and heart enough to be able to pick up on the “words of peace” that the Lord is speaking to me each day. I may not hear anything audibly, but I believe that the peace of the Holy Spirit is available to us anytime – if only we ask for it!

Yes, indeed! More peace, less folly. 🔑

      1. It sounds like the Lord is giving you what you need in order to persevere. You have a biblical mindset about things, and this is very good! ✝️

I’m doing pretty well, all things considered. Thank the Lord that I am well past my sinus infection – otherwise, I am trying to keep my days filled and my attitude positive. 🙂

      2. He sure is my friend. But it’s not like I am special, He does this for all of us. Every day, on different levels. It’s not always the parting of the Red sea hahaha :):):) Biblical mindset, I had not heard that before, and wondered, do I? I always feel like I have more of a childlike mindset when it comes to God. I am a logical thinker when it comes to most all things but it seems when I quit doing that with God, and His Word, then things, everything just started to fall into place. 99% of the time, I don’t know what I am doing. I just keep repeating LORD, help me, LORD help me :):) If that makes any sense at all.

I am so happy you are past the infection. Praise God. You are always in my prayers. God has a plan for you. He will put you right where He wants you to be. How do I know? Because you are His beloved child, and He wants you to be happy :):)

      3. Your comment really resonates with me, Margaret, as I am prone to over-analysis and A+B=C thinking, but the Lord is not that way! Like you, when God knocks some sense into me and I get out of my own way (and His), things start happening in ways I’d never expect. Thanks for this important reminder!

I appreciate your faithful prayer – you are regularly in my prayers as well, my friend. 💛 BTW, my Bible study at church is going through James MacDonald’s teaching on “When Life Gets Hard” – it is deeply impactful stuff. I highly recommend it (we’re nearing the halfway point). I’m learning how we view, experience, and learn from our trials is more to God than the trials themselves in some respects. This is the “biblical mindset” that I see in you, my friend!

      4. Amen, you hit the nail on the head, it’s what we learn from the trials, yes! He is teaching us. He doesn’t want us tormented but spiritually educated :):):) so we can proceed happily, and be the people He wants us to be :):) Praise God :):)
