Necessary Things

This quote by Martin Luther King, Jr. sure makes you pause and think, no? In fact, his wise words make me reassess and redefine my own personal definitions of “necessary” and “desirable”.

I wonder – if we got right down to it – what it is that each of us truly needs each day, and how many of the things that we say are needs are actually desires in disguise? And, as Dr. King indicates, how many of the things that seem so essential to us today will even matter to us tomorrow?

Perspective is important. In my view, we can only have true hope when we come to understand and appreciate that which we value most in life. The latest iPhone, car, whatever – they matter little in the grand scheme of things. No, in God’s economy, the Person who is so necessary for us today is also desirable (and essential) for all of our tomorrows, too! ✝️

  1. Ah! We’re so fickle!
God’s not fickle. As you so aptly put it: “the Person who is so necessary for us today is also desirable (and essential) for all of our tomorrows, too!” This is why we must put our focus on Him.
