This verse from Luke reminds me of an important life lesson: All that we say or do comes from the inside out, rather than the outside in. And the only way that we can access the heart’s “good treasure” is by allowing the Holy Spirit to tap into this life-giving resource, and then translating it into meaningful words and actions that “produce good” in the lives of others.
I cannot do this on my own! Indeed, such a feat is only possible when Jesus helps me.
Will you pray with me?
Dear Lord, I admit that I am lost without You! Please transform my heart and mind so that they are powerful and life-giving tools in Your hand that “produce good” in the lives of those around me. Also, remind me to remember the latter part of this verse, and consider it a warning: “And the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” Lord, You know that I desire Your good treasure, rather than the deceptively alluring evil treasure that the world is offering! Guide me in Your truth each and every day. In Your name I pray, amen.
