Mighty Fortress

I came across this verse from Proverbs 21 recently and found great reassurance from it. What a powerful reminder: No matter who may come against me, there is no wisdom, insight, or plan that can succeed against the Lord – truly, our Mighty Fortress.

Those words take me back to a classic hymn, “A Mighty Fortress is Our God” and the truth found therein. Sometimes, I think we forget the extent of the Lord’s power and sovereignty – especially when life gets hard.

But that is the thing about a fortress – a good one cannot be breached or compromised in any way. The same can be said about the Lord – there is no one who can even come close to one-upping Him in any way. Put another way, He has no peers – indeed, the Lord is without equal, and cannot be thwarted by any person, place, or thing. Many have tried to take Him on, but none will ever succeed. No one.

Yes, this verse from Proverbs 21 encourages me, because our God is strong, powerful, and mighty, and no one can defeat Him. He is our Fortress, and I am proud to be considered one of His children. I don’t deserve it, but I am eternally grateful nonetheless.

God is good.

    1. That is a wonderful life verse! One of my favorite quotes from that book is when God asks Job, “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?” (Basically, “excuse me, and who do you think you are…?”)

  1. Not only is He our mighty fortress but, because He is alive in us, WE are a mighty fortress. Winds and people and storms may assault, but we hide in Him, within us, and He stands mighty. His plans for us will forever be un-thwarted.
