Food for Thought #1

So with the change in my posting schedule (weekdays only now), I’ve shifted things around on the blog a bit. I think on Tuesdays, as the Lord leads, I’ll simply post a verse and a question that get me to think a bit – and perhaps they will do the same for you as well. Here is my first installment:

Here’s the question: What is love, and who is my neighbor?

  1. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 King James Version (KJV)

    4 “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,
    5 Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil;
    6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;
    7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.”

    My neighbor is anyone 🤠👍

    1. An excellent answer, Lee! I wants heard someone say that love is a choice, and not an emotion. I think that’s an important thing to keep in mind when we think about how God asks us to love other people (our “neighbors”).

      And seeing your hat-wearing emoji always makes me smile. Thanks for that. 😀

      1. And I thank you for taking some of your valuable time to extend kindness and encouragement to me and others.
        That reflects God to people, and to people. And a person can’t ask for more than that can they?

      2. Glad to do so, Lee. 🙂

        Thank you for asking! For now, I am still trying to fully recover from my asthma and sinus issues. While I am feeling better, I do not wish to overdo things (particularly with such a busy season at work). So, wisdom in terms of my health, rest, and balance in my schedule. Thank you, my friend! God bless you.

      3. Sure, I’ll pray for you to have wisdom in your balance of rest and work/tasks.

        And I’m also thankful that God has guided you to a job, because I remember when you were needing a job, and wasn’t sure where you would work.

        God bless you my friend.

  2. Every living being on earth and floating in space is my neighbour, and now the internet has made it even more real 😀

    Love is one word I have struggled with a lot. But in my stage of life, love to me is anything the Lord will have me do for another, as He has done for me.

    1. Well said, Tosin. I can relate to your struggles with the word “love,” and concur with your definition of it, too. I suppose that love and obedience are very closely aligned, when you stop and think about it.

      And your comment about our “Internet neighbors” made me smile! So true!

      1. Ah! So often when we declare something and/or are standing on the promises of God, we are tested in that very area shortly thereafter! I’m glad that you recognized that was what it was, and apparently passed the test (even though it was not easy).

      2. Yes. What you have said is so scriptural, remember the parable of the sower, and the seed that fell on the rocky soil? It said ‘when a testing came as a result of the word they received’ . . . so so true. Thank God for grace to continue to pass these tests.
